Where We Work

As a member of the global HUMANITE Peace Collective, HUMANITE Canada is proud of the work our colleagues are doing around the world.

HUMANITE in Ukraine

In Ukraine, 17 million people are still in need of urgent assistance, more than two years after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. The war in Ukraine is easily among the most significant global conflicts today, with regional and global implications, making it one of the largest and most complex crises we face.

HUMANITE works to meet the diverse challenges across different regions, with a focus on supporting the urgent needs of displaced people and rebuilding the jobs, businesses, hospitals, schools, and infrastructure that has been destroyed. Your support builds upon our ~20 years of experience in conflict zones, led by local staff and partners, demonstrating the best of who we can be together, even as the darkness dares us to be our worst.

HUMANITE in Iraq

In Iraq, years of war, terrorism, and ongoing instability have displaced over a million people, with 95% of them losing their homes. The ongoing humanitarian needs are marked by conflict, internal divisions, and the ever-present threat of ISIS. Displaced Iraqis and Syrian refugees still struggle with joblessness, food insecurity, and limited access to essentials.

HUMANITE provides holistic care, led by local staff, providing relief, creating jobs, supporting women's well-being, empowering youth, and promoting peacemaking. Your support builds on our 15+ years in this country and helps rebuild lives and restore hope.

HUMANITE in Syria

In Syria, a decade of civil war has pushed 90% of the population into poverty, with ongoing protests and violence reminiscent of the conflict's onset in 2011. The crisis has continued for over a decade due to complex domestic and international factors, including a proxy war involving regional and global powers supporting opposing factions. Syrians inside and outside the country face unemployment, poverty, and daily struggles for survival, with limited access to essentials and health care. The 2023 earthquake across Turkey and northern Syria has compounded the crisis, leaving the region with even greater challenges.

With food and fuel prices skyrocketing and the Syrian pound losing 80% of its value, millions of Syrians urgently need our help.

Your support has propelled our team’s work in Syria, led by staff and partners, since 2016, providing essentials like food, shelter, and medical care. Today, your donations continue to help Syrians rebuild their lives, supporting job creation, emergency food, and shelter for the displaced as we work together to avoid a return to full-scale civil war.

HUMANITE in Lebanon

Lebanon is in the middle of one of the world's worst economic crises in the last 150 years, resulting in dire needs for our friends and neighbors here. As the crisis deepens, HUMANITE is working to play our part in preventing an escalation into a full-blown conflict. The country faces a multifaceted emergency marked by sectarianism, corruption, and external shocks, leading to political instability, impoverishment, and a collapse of basic services. Lebanon's GDP has plummeted, its currency has lost most of its value, and inflation has surged. The risk of widespread violence looms as political and economic change remains elusive.

If you’ve ever wondered why the world doesn’t intervene to help before all these wars make headline news, Lebanon’s slide into chaos provides the perfect chance to help. Your support builds on our years of work, led by local staff and partners, providing relief, economic support, and mental health assistance for children in need.

HUMANITE in Iran

Iran is facing a pivotal moment in its history. As women lead the charge against religious oppression and ethnic minority groups demand greater autonomy, the country grapples with a complex web of political and human rights challenges. The clerical regime's response to dissent has been marked by widespread violence, poisonings, kidnappings, and deadly force, resulting in a need for urgent support and solidarity from all of us in the international community. HUMANITE continues to stand with and work for every brave citizen who has been unjustly targeted and attacked by the clerical regime for their fight to live free and abundantly. Explore our work in Iran to learn more about how your support can make a meaningful difference.

About HUMANITE

In 2003, the U.S. invaded Iraq. Within a few years, terrorism and war defined the Middle East.

Our founders were raised and came of age in the troubles of war—Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Syria. When two moved from America to help, the group formed, learning to love their neighbours on the frontlines of the world’s most notorious wars.

Today, 20 years after they first began, HUMANITE carries on that legacy, closing the gaps that lead to violence and building the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.
